NOVEMBER HOLIDAYS & OBSERVANCES
November is the second-to-last or eleventh month of the year. It comes with some significant holidays commemorated both nationally and internationally. November has 30 days, and we have included four important days for your reference. Please check and mark them on your calendar.
ELECTION DAY
Election Day is the Tuesday after the first Monday of November. It often falls on or between November 2 and November 8. We only have Election Day in even-numbered years. There are presidential elections every four years, in years that are divisible by four. During this time, citizens could vote for their president and vice president. On Election Day, residents of the United States of America may elect officials to local, state, and federal offices by public election.
VETERANS DAY
Veterans Day, formerly called Armistice Day, is a federal holiday held every November 11 in America to honor those who have worked in the country’s armed forces. Veterans Day falls on the same weekend as other celebrations commemorating the end of World War I. Veterans Day is different from Memorial Day; a national holiday celebrated in the US in May. Veterans Day honors all former members of the United States armed forces, whereas Memorial Day commemorates those who lost their lives when serving in the military.
THANKSGIVING DAY
Thanksgiving is an official national holiday in the United States, Saint Lucia, Canada, Grenada, and Liberia. It started as a day dedicated to showing gratitude for the blessings of the harvests and the previous year. Americans celebrate Thanksgiving Day as a day to feel grateful for what they have. They gather with their friends and families for a meal, which has a roast turkey, potatoes, cranberry sauce, vegetables, stuffing, pumpkin pie, and gravy. During the Thanksgiving holiday, parades take place in some places. These celebrations in most areas also signify the start of the holiday shopping season.
BLACK FRIDAY
Black Friday is American slang for the Friday right after Thanksgiving Day. It marks the beginning of the Christmas shopping season in the US. Black Friday in 2022 falls on November 25. Since 2005, Black Friday has consistently been the biggest shopping day of the year in America. Many retailers open early, usually as early as midnight or on Thanksgiving, and often have highly marketed deals with big discounts.
